Hello

Hi, I'm Colin. I have agency and in-house experience producing ambitious visual and CX design work for clients such as Microsoft, AWS and Alexa. I'm in Seattle.

Overview

My recent work includes platform-level design, product evolution and future vision work.

I contribute to in-studio and wider community design culture and enjoy creating tangible art projects. I have exhibited at Seattle Design Week, and am interested in working to positively impact environment and wellbeing.

Systems in practice

In creating a sustainable design system for Amazon WorkDocs I helped to unite the product teams around a central visual language, and a shared understanding of experience tenets.

As point-person for control within Alexa smart home, and for collaboration at Compass, I designed extensible components, created flexible, scalable patterns, and contributed to the vision and design of simple, intuitive expereinces.

Collaborative ideation

Communication is a large part of how collaborative ideation and discovery relates to my design process.

In contrast with design's singular fondness for order and efficiency in style and process, I find that the congruent process of collaboration and design thinking produces more effective results. I wrote a little about this on Medium.

Culture & standards

Extensible design systems accelerate the design process, and build unity between all teams involved in product development. Because of this, style guides, typography, iconography, CSS, motion and coded components were all part of my process and standards work.

I find that sharing process, new thinking and fostering culture and principles with teammates, mentors, mentees, and the wider design community is as much enlightening as it is inspiring.

There’s always more to learn about the craft, and there are always opportunities to set new design and operational standards.
