I worked as part of a centralized AWS design team whose goal was to apply a single visual language to a suite of products.

My design contributions helped shape the future vision of the AWS enterprise products, and furthered my understanding of the space.

As a member of a centralized design team I helped develop our design language by developing standards, documentation and owning the typography and grid aspects of the system.

My contributions to brand and product development as a senior designer on the centralized design team included restyling: a mail client, a productivity app, a desktop streaming service, a secure file storage and sharing service.

I contributed to consistent application of UI design patterns across multiple end-points, including owning Material theming for Chime on Android.

Focus

When offered the opportunity to focus on Amazon WorkDocs I evolved the product’s design language, driving a modern experience that is simple, human and consistent.

Logo design

I contributed to design investigation around the new Amazon Chime logo. Below are some examples from my design  investigation, intended to push the teams investigation into new places.

Following completion of that project, I took full ownership of the design of a new logo for WorkSpaces – using an isometric design style that would compliment the final Chime logo.

Responsibilities included presentation to leadership and working with legal teams to finalize the mark.

Brand development

I developed brand for AWS through designing simple, consistent, intuitive experiences for users spanning identity design, marketing and product UX.

Product development work included contributing to vision documents, design investigations and prototyping.

One such project combined design and prototyping for a productivity app that featured messaging, content creation and scheduling.

Key impacts & learning

Product design styles and patterns should always be evolving, and opportunities for wholistic thinking that include experience design (and not only visual re-skinning) can be used to drive positive change.

Brand exists in the intersection of business, culture and how users interact with it.

Through understanding how a product fits into wider user ecosystems I helped to achieve growth, and we took brand along with us.

More work.
